The 0DTE Options List: Daily Expirations

Which options expire every trading day: SPX, XSP, NDX, RUT, DJX, SPY, QQQ, IWM and more, checked against the exchanges' own lists on 2026-10-31.

By The Oracle · For education, not financial advice.

Last checked: 2026-10-31. The exchanges change these lists often, some every quarter, so check your broker’s option chain before relying on any date.

A 0DTE option is any option on its expiration day, but only some underlyings have an expiration every trading day, Monday to Friday, so there is always a same-day contract. As of 2026-10-31 they are the index options SPX, XSP, NDX, RUT, MRUT and DJX; the ETFs SPY, QQQ and IWM; and, under the exchanges’ newer short-term program, XLF, IBIT and GLD. A wider group of large stocks and ETFs, including AAPL, NVDA, TSLA, SLV and TLT, has Monday, Wednesday and Friday expirations, so they are 0DTE three days a week. Every source is listed at the end.

Index options with daily expirations

  • SPX, the S&P 500 Index (weekly series SPXW). Cboe. The largest 0DTE market: Cboe reported same-day contracts at 59% of SPX options volume in 2025.
  • XSP, Mini-SPX. Cboe. One tenth the size of SPX.
  • NDX, the Nasdaq-100 Index. Nasdaq’s options exchanges, which list daily, weekly, monthly and long-term expirations. The short-dated series trade as NDXP.
  • RUT, the Russell 2000 Index (weekly series RUTW), and MRUT, the Mini-Russell 2000. Cboe. Daily since January 8, 2024, when Tuesday and Thursday expirations were added.
  • DJX, the Dow Jones Industrial Average at 1/100 size (weekly series DJXW). Cboe. Daily since May 18, 2026.

All of these settle in cash and are European-style, so they cannot be exercised early and no shares change hands at expiration.

ETF options with daily expirations

  • SPY, QQQ and IWM. Listed across the US options exchanges, with Monday to Thursday expirations alongside the Friday weeklies, so each has a contract expiring every trading day.
  • XLF, IBIT and GLD. The “Tier 1” ETFs in the exchanges’ short-term option program for the fourth quarter of 2026, which allows Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday expirations on top of the Friday weeklies. Tuesday and Thursday were added for this tier in 2026, and the tier is recalculated every quarter.

ETF options are American-style and settle into shares: an in-the-money contract left open at the close becomes a stock position.

Three days a week: Monday, Wednesday and Friday

A second group has Monday and Wednesday expirations added to the Friday weeklies, so it is 0DTE on those three days. For the fourth quarter of 2026:

  • Stocks: AMD, GOOGL, AMZN, AAPL, AVGO, META, MU, MSFT, NVDA, SPCX and TSLA.
  • ETFs: IEF, LQD, SLV, TLT, GDX, TQQQ, DRAM, XLE and SMH.

Three details trip people up. Names qualify on size and options volume measured at the end of each quarter, so they join and leave. An extra single-stock expiration is not listed on a day when the company reports earnings after the close. And only the listed share class qualifies: GOOGL is on the list, GOOG is not.

A worked illustration

Illustration, not live data. One ordinary week with no holiday, earnings or monthly expiration:
SPY · an expiration on Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday and Friday
AAPL · Monday, Wednesday and Friday; on Tuesday its nearest expiration is Wednesday, one day away
A stock on neither list · Friday only, if it has weekly options at all

So “0DTE” means something different by ticker. In SPY it is available every morning. In AAPL a Tuesday trade in the nearest expiration is really a 1DTE trade, held overnight, with the gap risk that brings.

Options on futures

Futures exchanges run their own calendars. CME, for example, lists E-mini S&P 500 options with an expiration every business day, after adding Tuesday and Thursday expirations in 2022. Futures options need a futures account and trade in different contract sizes and hours from the listed options above.

Why the list keeps changing

  • Quarterly resets. The single-stock and ETF tiers are recalculated from market value, fund assets and options volume at the end of each calendar quarter.
  • New products. Exchanges add expirations when demand is there, as Cboe did for RUT in 2024 and DJX in 2026.
  • Exchange by exchange. Each options exchange files its own rule changes, so a new expiration can appear on one venue’s list before others match it.

The quickest check is your broker’s option chain: if today’s date is listed as an expiration, there is a 0DTE contract.

Why 0DTE matters beyond the list

Same-day contracts carry the most gamma of any option, so dealer hedging around them can matter late in the day. 0DTE options and dealer hedging explains how, and when the effect is smaller than it sounds. Because a 0DTE option can lose its whole value within hours, position size and discipline matter more than usual; how to stop revenge trading and overtrading covers the habits that go wrong fastest.

0DTE in MomoEdge

MomoEdge’s PRISM grid shows gamma by strike for each expiration, with a view narrowed to today’s expiration, and the GEX tab marks the walls and gamma flip for one ticker. The GEX tab lesson shows how to read those levels. The $10K account shows every trade our team takes with real money, winners and losers, before commissions and fees. FAQ

Which stocks have 0DTE options every day?

As of 2026-10-31, no single stock on the exchanges’ lists has an expiration every weekday. The largest stocks, such as AAPL, NVDA and TSLA, have Monday, Wednesday and Friday expirations, so they are 0DTE three days a week.

Do SPY options expire every day?

Yes. SPY, QQQ and IWM have Monday to Thursday expirations alongside the Friday weeklies, so each has a contract expiring every trading day.

Why is there sometimes no 0DTE contract on a listed ticker?

Market holidays move or remove expirations, and the extra single-stock expirations are not listed on a day when the company reports earnings after the close. Always check the option chain for the day.

Are 0DTE index options settled in cash?

Yes. SPX, XSP, NDX, RUT and DJX options settle in cash and cannot be exercised early. ETF and stock options settle into shares.
